Lorrie Moore's view of writing is probably realistic for people who are trying to be published. From what I hear becoming a writer, whether it be a novelist or journalist, it all hard to accomplish. I've heard much of it comes from luck or who you know rather than skill or style. I guess it's similiar to acting or becoming a singer- I'm sure most cruise ship singers have better voices than Rihanna or Britney spears.
